EAST COAST FACES

INTRODUCING SEAN DOYLE

I’m inspired by people like Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, a young Harrison Ford - these guys just had their own aura around them.

BEGINNINGS

We just wanted to have stuff we like in there, if we had more space I’d have Chesterfields and wing-back chairs and random assorted junk.
When people start out they usually go get a bank loan and all that but you don’t have to do that, we got our coffee machine off Gumtree, we got our grinder super cheap because the face of it was broken, our furniture all basically came from Gumtree or Lifeline, and if you need fridges, you go to Grays online. For young people starting out, don’t buy new stuff, buy second hand stuff, put out the feelers. Then if it all goes well, with the money you’ve earned, then you can go out and buy new stuff...

STYLE

I just wear and do what I want to do, I don’t think I follow trends, I just do my own thing. I’m not worried about anyone else, I stopped caring about what other people think a long time ago. I’m inspired by people like Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, a young Harrison Ford - rather than someone say like Kanye West, these guys just had their own aura around them.

If I had the time I’d build my own furniture, I’m self-taught, you can learn everything off YouTube. I like working with metal, I taught myself to weld off YouTube too…

PASSIONS

TRAVEL:
Manchester, U.K. – it’s never going to be London but it’s cool in it’s own way, it’s got a really good nightlife, lots of cool bars, lots of cool nightclubs and live music.

MUSIC:
I go through stages, at the moment I’m really liking lo-fi hip hop beats, chilled out sounds like Mac demarco, Peachpit

IF I COULD SAVE ONLY ONE THING IN A FIRE

My record player – even though you can’t carry it, like it’s big - it’s got speakers and an amplifier and that, it was given to me with a bunch of Bowie records. We moved away from records when there was literally nothing wrong with them – there’s more character to listening to a record than say pressing play on an iPod or whatever. You can call me a hipster or whatever but I remember the first time hearing Diamond Dogs for the first time and I thought it was great.
I got my amplifier off eBay super cheap, it’s great, it’s got no distortion, and I got my speakers from Lifeline, they’re huge, they were from a radio station, there were four of them, they were $60!
